Couloir attempt #1 (Teewinot sub peak)

Windy but beautiful![/caption]This past Sunday a few of us headed up to ski a couloir that had seen from the parking lot of Bradley Taggert and also from Amphitheater Lake a few weeks prior. The couloir is not a steep one, but it is pretty as it dog legs down a sub peak of Teewinot. The couloir looks at you from different areas of the park begging to be skied! The approach was beautiful up past Delta lake and the East Face of the Grand staring you in the face the entire time! The approach to the bottom was about 4 hours. It is a long way up through Glacier Gulch. Sunday was incredibly warm and by the time we were at the
bottom of the couloir the snow had heated up a lot especially around the rocks. We went about half way up the couloir and then decided it was to warm and turned around. In the middle of January you do not usually expect to have to turn around due to warm temps! The skiing down was definitely worth it in the end as we skied around 4500 feet to the valley floor. I can’t wait to go back for round 2![caption id="attachment_552" align="alignnone" width="300"]
